The strength of your focus determines the degree to which you are susceptible to distraction.   

Your focus determines your future.  

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith….”  (Hebrews 12:2 NKJV).

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 3:14 NKJV).   

The object of your affection determines your focus.  So focus on God and the vision He has for your life.

The less focus you have, the more distracted you will be.  And when you are distracted, your purpose is compromised.  In fact, maintaining your focus can be a matter of life and death.

Distraction is getting involved in anything that  takes your eyes off of the purpose of God.  It could take the form of entertainment, the opposite sex, the job or hanging around other people who have lost their sense of purpose.  What does this do to you? It slows you down and in the process, time is lost. 

  When you are not connected to your purpose, time is running against you!

Distraction cannot exist without purpose.  Distraction is attracted to purpose with the intention of undermining it. It is designed to nullify your attraction to purpose. Distraction is a thief of purpose. Think about it for a moment. It  wouldn’t  be called distraction if there was nothing to be distracted from.

Once I was taking an Organic Chemistry test in college. I had studied very well and felt that I was ready for the exam.  As I stepped into the exam hall and got my questions, there was a problem. I was beginning to lose my focus. I could not concentrate.  The room was so hot that I felt faint.  It was at this time that I heard a voice in my head, “You have failed this exam…that is it!”  But something inside me rose up and said, “No I won’t! I will do well on this exam.”  Through sheer determination and regaining my focus, I scored a 90 on that exam.

The secret is knowing what the purpose (the original intention) of God for your life is.  Once you can identify what your purpose is, it acts as a barometer to measure your degree of focus.  As you focus on purpose, the nonessentials will become obvious. The nonessentials are time wasters. Instead of enhancing your purpose they hinder it.

You will not miss God’s purpose for your life. You will be focused from  the beginning till the end in Jesus’ name. Amen. 

With God on your side, you can and will make it.

But you must keep your focus!
